Director of International Students Programme

Established in 1925, Wellington East Girls’ College (WEGC) is a multicultural girls’ secondary school with around 1,100 students based in Mount Victoria, Wellington. WEGC has an established reputation for student engagement, innovation and success. They have a strong school spirit celebrated by both staff and students, state of the art facilities and a wide range of extra-curricular activities that caters to every student.

They are now seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and innovative Director to join their small, dedicated and highly functional team who are committed to making a difference to the lives of young people!

Reporting to the Principal, you will be responsible for leading and managing the International Students programme through supporting the social, emotional, academic and physical well-being of international students, ensuring they are welcomed, fully integrated and have a positive and fulfilling experience at WEGC, which will include:
  • Being the first port of call for the international students
  • Overseeing the recruitment and orientation of international students
  • Liaising with Deans and subject teachers to ensure the correct placement of students
  • Assisting with the promotion of marketing materials, attend educational expos and work with agents to promote the school and International Students Programme
  • Overseeing the home-stay programme to ensure accommodation is provided to students
  • Monitoring and managing student’s attendance and academic achievements
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships across the organisation and with the wider support networks (Dean’s, teachers/staff, prospective families, parents and caregivers, regulatory bodies, community groups and local/international agents)
  • Ensuring compliance with the Education (Pastoral Care for International Students) Code of Practice 2016.
This is a permanent part-time position, 25 hours per week. Ideally commencing late January/early February 2020, or by negotiation. This role will require local and international travel from time to time.

To be considered for this role, you will be an experienced leader with a broad background of skills across both pastoral care and marketing within international education. You will have a demonstrated ability to build strong relationships and have a natural empathy for people from other cultures. Resourcefulness, attention to detail, problem solving skills and ability to make sound judgement and decisions are essential.

Person Profile:
  • Previous experience working in international education or student services or similar role
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
  • Understanding of the NZ education system is essential
  • Knowledge of the Code of Practice 2016 is advantageous
  • Proven leadership capabilities
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • An exceptional and confident communicator (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated cultural awareness; ability to work cross-culturally with people from different ethnic backgrounds
  • Empathy and passion for working with young people
  • A friendly, open and approachable disposition
  • Ability to establish priorities and work to targets and deadlines
  • Good computer literacy and proficiency with MS Office & Google Suite
  • Available to travel domestically and internationally for marketing events and visiting agents as required.
